Science Week 2022: 2nd Class

Second class were very during Science Week being mini scientists. They completed various experiments throughout the week that led them to some thought provoking conclusions. One of their highlights was building their dream STEM playgrounds using materials they found at home.

Drama Club

Ms Murphy’s drama club have been very busy learning about different character roles and even dressing up in their own costumes for improv activities. What a talented bunch.

Autumn in 2nd Class

Second class have been learning and exploring the signs of Autumn this month and they have really enjoyed going on nature trails to do so. They took inspiration from the school garden to help with creating leaf rubbings and Autumnal themed art.

4th Class Blitz

4th Class visited Pairc Ui Chaoimh twice in the last two weeks to take part in a hurling and a football blitz. The boys were a credit to the school on both occasions and did their teachers proud with their performance both on and off the pitch. They were in full voice on the journeys down and back (there were plenty of squeals as the double decker bus inched under some low hanging tree beaches on the marina!).
Well done boys!

Cycling to CBC

We love seeing one of our CBC families arriving by bicycle in the mornings. Well done to Michael in 1st Class and his brother Shane in Junior Infants (and Dad!) for getting their exercise done early in the morning!

Lord Mayor Visit

CBC Preparatory School were delighted to attend the annual Lord Mayor Visit in the secondary school gym on Friday 7th October. It is one of the very few occasions that the entire school, from Junior Infants to Sixth Year, gathers together in the hall and is always a very special occasion. Lord Mayor, Councilor Deirdre Forde spoke passionately about the city of Cork and encouraged the boys to contact her office if they had any ideas that they think would be useful to make the city an attractive place for them to visit with their families.

Representatives from each class met the Lord Mayor as she arrived at CBC.

Lego Club – Spaceships

Our Lego club boys had great fun designing and building their very own spaceship. Take a look below at some of the fabulous creations.
If boys wish, they can bring any Lego pieces/sets they have created at home and give a quick presentation on them at Lego  club. Boys can drop them to Mr. Buckley’s classroom on the mornings of Lego club so they are not broken during the day.

Drama Club

This week in Ms Murphy’s Drama club, the boys made their own puppets to put on a show in the puppet theatre. The imagination and creativity from the boys was very impressive and a lot of fun was had throughout.

Harry Potter Club Sorting Hats

Today was the first day of Harry Potter Club so naturally the boys took part in Sorting Hat activities! We answered some questions to see which house we all belonged to – lots of Gryffindors here at CBC!- and then did a lovely Sorting Hat drawing activity.

4th Class

4th Class were up and moving during their lessons this week, taking to the lunchroom on Tuesday with Ms. O’ Donovan for Maths and again on Thursday with Mrs. FitzPatrick for Gaeilge. They worked in small groups on various activities to help consolidate the learning in these core subjects.

School Mass September 2022

This morning our school mass was celebrated in the lunchroom, marking the first time the whole school has gathered together for mass since before the beginning of the pandemic. It was a joyful occasion and a wonderful way to mark a return to normality after the past years of disruption to regular school life.

Back to School 2022

The corridors of the Prep School were buzzing this morning with the arrival of students and staff back to school after the summer break. Old friends and new chatted excitedly with a highlight of the day being our first morning assembly for prayers in the lunchroom since pre-COVID times!

The morning was spent organising school books and getting to know new teachers with lots of fun and games. Pictured below are our 4th Class boys with their teacher, Mrs. Caroline FitzPatrick, who staged a “snowstorm” in the yard as part of their ice breaking activities.

New Principal Appointed to the Preparatory School

Ms. Sharon McAdoo has been announced as the new Principal of the Preparatory School. Ms. McAdoo has been a key member of the Prep School staff for the past 13 years, holding the post of Deputy Principal for the past 4 years. She will commence her new role in August 2022, following the retirement of Dr. Larry Jordan. We wish both Ms. McAdoo and Dr. Jordan our best for the future.

Summer Camp June 2022

There were lots of enjoyable outings for those who attended our summer camp in June 2022 including a trip on the Hop on Off Bus Tour of Cork and a trip to the Mixed Ability Rugby World Cup in Musgrave Park where they met the team from Belgium.
