Social Media: Challenges for Parents

On Monday 10th September, following the Preparatory School Parents Council AGM, parents and teachers were addressed by Dr. Maureen Griffin in a talk entitled “Social Media: Challenges for Parents”. The talk provided an overview of what is currently popular among Irish students, what the potential dangers are and offered practical advice on how to protect children when they are online or using their mobile devices. Issues such as social networking sites (e.g. Instagram); social messaging/chatting apps (e.g. snapchat); video-streaming sites (e.g. YouTube); mobile device safety; screen time; grooming and cyber-bullying were also addressed. Dr. Griffin’s talk was very well received by parents and staff alike and provided a great basis for talking with our children about Online Safety. Further information on Online Safety for Children can be found on our INFORMATION FOR PARENTS page.

Parents Council AGM

The Preparatory School Parents Council AGM took place on Monday 10th September. Principal Dr. Larry Jordan addressed the meeting to advise on new and ongoing activities in the school over the coming academic year. Parent representatives were elected for each class following which a question and answer session was facilitated.
