Rugby Fixture Saturday 1 October

Third to Sixth Class will be playing against Cobh Pirates on Saturday next. Third, Fourth and Fifth should be dropped off at 10.00am for a 10.30am kickoff and should be collected at 11.30am. The Sixth Class game takes place immediately afterwards: arrive at 11.00am; kickoff at 11.30am and collection at 12.30pm. School Tour

This year’s school tour was on Tuesday 24 May. Junior Infants to Second Class went to the Glen Recreation Centre where they had a very enjoyable day of activities, including wall climbing.

The boys of Third to Sixth Class went to the Oysterhaven aquatic centre where more adventurous activities were on offer, including canoeing, boating, rope bridge crossing and other pursuits that involved getting wet and muddy.

Sports Day 2011

The annual Sports Day was held at CIT Sports Grounds this year as the Mardyke was not available. A great day was had by all. Sprints, three-legged, egg & spoon and novelty races were run off for all classes from 3rd to 6th. Meanwhile, back at the school, the younger boys had their Sports Day on the Astroturf.

Bath Tour 2011

Sixth Class arrived back in Cork last night after a hectic weekend in Bath. They played seven rugby matches over the three days at three different venues. They also spent some time sight seeing, culminating with a guided tour of the famous Roman Baths. The touring team also found time for bowling, quasar and a visit to the cinema.

Fifth Class were guests of Scoil Cholmchille, Blarney Street on Friday last, to play return cricket and hurling matches. All the boys enjoyed the event and it is planned to have some more matches before the summer holidays.

A few weeks before Ireland’s famous victory over England in the Cricket World Cup, a cricket match had been planned between CBC Prep School and Scoil Cholmcille CBS, Blarney Street. The match took place this morning at Lansdowne in glorious sunshine. The fact that cricket has been very much in the news this week, made the event all the more enjoyable.

The Fifth Class boys from each school competed and everyone got a chance to play. The final result: we want more cricket. A return match is planned for next Friday morning when the CBC boys will be the guests of Scoil Cholmchille.

The boys finished off the morning’s sport with a game of hurling on the Astro Turf. What energy!

Swimming

Next Wednesday afternoon will complete the eight weeks of swimming lessons in Mayfield Swimming Pool, started in November. Fifty-two pupils participated from Second Class to Sixth Class. Some First Class and Senior Infants pupils who have brothers in Second to Sixth Class were also allowed to participate. Four swimming instructors were on hand each Wednesday, so that the boys could be coached at their own individual level.

It is proposed to start another eight week session of swimming lessons immediately after the Christmas break. The course costs twenty-five euro, to be paid in advance. Most of the current participants have expressed an interest in continuing on, but there is also room for a few more pupils.

The lessons take place on Wednesday afternoons, starting at 2.00pm. Pupils who are going swimming may stay in the Lunch Room from 1.00-1.30pm under supervision, to convenience parents.

If you are interested, please get your money in as soon as possible.

Sports Day

Today, the Junior and Senior Infants, First and Second Class had their sports in the morning in the Gym. Third Class to Sixth Class went to the UCC Sports grounds at the Mardyke at 12 noon to join the Secondary School for the annual Sports Day. Each class had a number of races including sprints, three-legged, wheelbarrow, egg and spoon and sack races. Sixth Class also had a novelty race involving having to stop at various points to don shoes and dresses! A great day was enjoyed by all.
