History Project 2021

To mark the centenary commemoration which took place nationwide during 2021 of the Irish War of Independence our history classes in Third, Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Class concentrated on this revolutionary period in Irish history and on the foundation of the Irish Free State in 1921. In addition, the boys in the four classes were tasked with producing a personal project on ‘Cork City and County during War of Independence Years 1919-1921’. The pupils were asked to research details of events which took place in the Cork area during this critical time in Irish history. In particular, the boys were asked to do some primary research within their own family and to seek out any connections within their own family with the period. The boys in the four classes produced some outstanding projects where many family connections were indeed established.  For example, Oliver Bailey in Sixth Class, actually recorded an interview with his family relative Ms Fidelma Collins, a grand-niece of Michael Collins.  The boys did a fantastic job, presenting their  projects in class.
